Review: Anna Dressed in Blood

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1)

Title: Anna Dressed in Blood
Author: Kendare Blake
Pages: 316
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: August 30th 2011
Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story...

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

“She's my purpose and we're going to save each other. We're going to save
everyone. And then I'm going to convince her that she's supposed to stay here. With me.”

My Review:

I had heard such great things about this book which was why I was so shocked when I first started reading it. Yes, I will admit it I thought the beginning was boring. But then about almost 100 pages in it finally started to pick up speed and I ended up actually loving this book. So I guess all the hype about this book was right!

The book had an extremely awesome story line which I loved. Ghost Killer falls in love with his Prey. Kendare Blake came up with an amazing unique and modern plot line. I thought the plot was well executed and led up to a shocking finale. This ending I did not see coming what so ever and I have to say I loved it! I thought it was the perfect ending and made me want to read the sequel right away. Now I have to go get the Sequel Girl of Nightmares like ASAP!

The narrator of the book is the main boy Cas, I am sometimes, depending on the storyline, a little hesitant reading a book from a guys perspective. I don't know why maybe its because I'm a girl and I can relate to girls more. But I actually loved Cas' narration. It was written in a very intense but simple easy going way, which made me enjoy the book so much more from Cas' point of view.

I think this is a great read. It had a perfect mix of mystery, horror, and love. I loved loved loved it. I would definitely recommend this to any Paranormal Romance fan. Fantastic Book! Well Done Kendare Blake!
