Waiting on Wednesday! #12

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!
Meant to Be
Title: Meant To Be
Author: Lauren Morrill
Pages: 256
Publisher: Delacorte Books
Publication Date: November 13th 2012
Synopsis (from Goodreads): Meant to be or not meant to be . . . that is the question.

It's one thing to fall head over heels into a puddle of hazelnut coffee, and quite another to fall for the—gasp—wrong guy. Straight-A junior Julia may be accident prone, but she's queen of following rules and being prepared. That's why she keeps a pencil sharpener in her purse and a pocket Shakespeare in her, well, pocket. And that's also why she's chosen Mark Bixford, her childhood crush, as her MTB ("meant to be").

But this spring break, Julia's rules are about to get defenestrated (SAT word: to be thrown from a window) when she's partnered with her personal nemesis, class-clown Jason, on a school trip to London. After one wild party, Julia starts receiving romantic texts . . . from an unknown number! Jason promises to help discover the identity of her mysterious new suitor if she agrees to break a few rules along the way. And thus begins a wild goose chase through London, leading Julia closer and closer to the biggest surprise of all: true love.

Because sometimes the things you least expect are the most meant to be.

Review: Clarity

Clarity (Clarity, #1)
“I knew about loyalty about putting family before all others. I'd already learned some things I'd do to protect my own. I'd withhold information from the police. I'd use people. I'd lie. If pushed hard........how far would I go.”
Kim Harrington, Clarity

Title: Clarity
Author: Kim Harrington
Pages: 246
Publisher: Point
Publication Date: March 1st 2011
Synopsis (from goodreads):

When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.

Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.

And a curse.

When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?

My Review:

Clarity is the new modern Nancy Drew with a psychic twist. This book is filled with suspense, drama, humor, family values, and two very, very hot boys. Girls who are fans of a quick fast, paced, mystery will eat this book up.
Harrington did a great job of writing this book. I read this book in one day since the book was full of intrigue and suspense but also because the writing was enjoyable and easy to follow. The book starts off with a quick flash forward towards the end of the book in the middle of some really intense action drawing you in. After the flash forward the first couple chapters are not as exciting while Harrington describes the background and setting of the book, but once the murder case is introduced it picks right back up not letting you put the book down.
Kim Harrington also did a great job exploring relationships in the story. A big theme that this book covers a lot is family values. The relationship between the main character Clare and her mother and especially her brother, Perry are fantastic. When her brother, Perry, becomes the prime suspect in the murder case this really puts Clare's loyalty to a test and shows just how important family is to all of us.
Some other great relationships in this book that every girl will love is the relationships between Clare and her two love interests, Justin and Gabriel. Both relationships are complicated. Justin is Clare's ex-boyfriend who made a drunken mistake, screwing up their relationship, but is still in love with her and will do anything to get her back. Then there is Gabriel the detective's son who can not stand that Clare is a psychic but can not help but fall for her. Personally I am on Team Justin but Gabriel is steamy hot.
I really loved the main character Clarity "Clare" Fern. Clare was a very courageous, strong girl but who still dealt with inner termoral because of people consistently picking on her for being different then the rest. But Clare puts up a strong front with fast smooth comebacks that will make you laugh. I found Clare very likable and very realatable (even though she is a psychic).
I also thoroughly enjoyed the murder case in this book. It kept you intrigued till the end needing to know who the murderer is. The end of the book is a total shocker I never saw it coming and I bet you wouldn't. The murder is one of the people you would least expect and i loved that.
Overall Clarity is a fast fun read that I enjoyed immensely.
